Welcome to 2019-2020 Class

Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to Public Speaking and Leadership class at Cary Chinese School! I’m super excited to have your students in the class! They will practice communication and leadership skills each week and are on their way to become more competent in public speaking! As you get ready for the 2019-2020 school year, I ask for your attention to the following:

CLASS HOMEPAGE
The 2019-2020 class homepage link is http://www.carycs.org/act-psl. It is also available from the class website. Our teachers will use the class homepage for weekly announcement and assignment. Please make sure to check the class homepage every week for homework assignment and updates from the teachers. There will not be weekly email from the teachers.

CLASSROOM ASSIGNMENT
This year we will have three classrooms: A(2504), B(2506) and C(2508). In the next few days, you will receive a separate email with classroom assignment for your child and teacher contact info. Classroom assignment is based on student age so that kids of similar ages will be in the same classroom. Returning students will be assigned to a different classroom from previous one. All three classrooms will use the same curriculum.
TEACHERS
I’m glad that we will have the same teachers from last year to teach again this year. For more information about our teachers, check out here: http://www.carycs.org/act-psl-2019.html. Occasionally, when the class teacher is not available, an experienced Toastmaster from local Toastmasters clubs will step in as substitute teacher.
PARENT VOLUNTEER
Room parents are needed each week to assist in the classroom. I encourage all parents to sign up as room parent at least once or twice throughout the school year. This is good opportunity for parents to observe the Toastmasters program so you can better support your child on the journey to improve communication and leadership skills. WECHAT GROUP
New WeChat group for the class has been established for communication with teachers and parents. Both parents and students are welcome. Due to privacy concern, please do not invite people from outside this class. Please scan the QR Code sent to your mailbox to join the WeChat group.
​PREPARE FOR THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS

• Students should follow rules here: http://www.carycs.org/students.html
• Each student should bring a binder with papers to keep handouts and take notes in the class.
• Each student should commit to prepare for speech and participate in classroom activities and serve meeting roles assigned by the teacher each week.
• Weekly attendance is necessary for the student to follow this program and improve skills. If you anticipate the student will be absent, please notify your teacher in advance. I do not recommend taking this class if the student will be absent more frequently than 6 weeks total for the school year.
• On the first day of class (September 7) between 10:50am-12:00pm, I will be near the locker area outside of the classrooms. Parents are welcome to stop by and ask questions. Look for a Toastmaster sign next to me.
