Teachers may ask parents to sign up and serve as a room parent to assist in the classroom. During the school year, each parent can serve once or a few times as room parent, depending on the size of the class. Serving as a room parent provides opportunity for parents to set a good example for the students and get better understanding of the learning environment, therefore parents will be better prepared to support your own children to succeed at school.
​Here's a list of common room parents responsibilities:
Before class starts:

• Arrive before class starts.
• Help teacher with classroom set up.
• Usher students to get settled and ready for class.
• Mute your phone and put it away. 

During class:

• Collect homework and grade homework.
• Assist teacher with classroom activities.
• Monitor all students and prevent disruptive behavior.
• Guide kids to/from bathrooms (for younger classes).
• Set a good example by being a model parent in the class.

After class:

• Help teacher put chairs and desks back to original order.
• Tidy up the classroom, pick up trash and put away in the trash bin.
