Description Welcome to Rubik's Cube Solving! In this class, we will start from the basics of the Rubik's cube and cover important general concepts, such as the pieces and hand notations. I will then go into detail in a step-by-step walkthrough of how to solve the Rubik's cube, splitting up the process from start to finish into five stages to allow students to easily comprehend the instructions. Finally, I will provide some advice on improving the speed at which they can solve the cube, and suggest ways to make their cube-solving more efficient. This course will train students' spatial reasoning, visualization, and spatial manipulation skills, and is a great way for students to exercise their brains while on summer break! Note: For this course, any standard Rubik's cube would be acceptable. However, if you are searching for a new one, I can recommend the DaYan GuHong v3 as a great Rubik's cube in terms of quality and speed. Instructor: Hal Lin My name is Hal Lin, and I'll be teaching this Rubik's Cube Solving course. I am a recent Duke University graduate with a B.S. in mathematics and economics. As a Cary Chinese School CHL graduate, I previously taught SAT Reading and Writing at Cary Chinese School for 3 years. I first learned how to solve the Rubik's cube in the 7th grade, and there's no doubt that striving to improve and compete with my friends on who could solve it the fastest fueled my intellectual curiosity and my academic interests. I hope that students taking this course may also be similarly inspired. Welcome to the class!
